Industry
for Spaceflight and Navigation
The intensity of titanium and the alloys
which are made from titanium are very high
of all of metal materials. It has the same
intensity as steel products, however, its
weight is only 57% of the latter's. Moreover,
titanium and its alloys have an excellent
heat-resistant capability by which it could
still keep good intensity and stability even
under high temperature up to 500 Celsius while
aluminum and stainless steel will lose their
original ability if the temperature rises
to 150 Celsius and above or 310 Celsius and
above. It’s very applicable to use titanium
alloys when planes, missiles, rockets are
aviating at high speed. To use titanium and
its alloys instead of other metals in plane-manufacturing
industry can prolong planes’ life, reduce
their weights and promote their aviating capability.
So, we can say that titanium is one of the
most potential structural materials in the
industry for spaceflight and navigation.
Titanium and its alloys are mainly used to
produce a plane’s engines and airframe. Generally
speaking, its engine needs to be made from
a portion of titanium and titanium alloys
and its airframe needs to be made from aluminum
alloys and if a plane’s Mach number is less
than 2. We need to use more titanium and titanium
alloys if its Mach number is equal to 2. The
quantity of titanium and titanium alloys which
need to be produced its airframe will increase
considerably if a plane’s Mach number is more
than 3.5.
Titanium and its alloys have an excellent
cold-resistant capability also. They still
have the capability of impingement and anti-shake
even though they are in the condition of -250
Celsius. So they are widely used in producing
rockets, missiles, spaceships’ engine shells
and high-pressure vessels.
Petrochemical
Industry
Titanium is mainly used
in producing petrochemical equipments in petrochemical
industry. It’s rather important to choose
suitable making materials for petrochemical
equipments. Mechanical performance of Titanium
and its alloys is similar to stainless steel.
However, their corrode-resistant capability
is head and shoulder above the ladder’s. For
this reason, titanium and its alloys have
been widely used in various forms in producing
important petrochemical equipments.
Chemical Industry
Titanium is widely used
in many sections of national economy, especially
in chemical industry because of its excellent
corrode-resistant, mechanical and techniques
performance. It can increase output and the
quality of products, prolong equipments’ life,
decrease materials’ and energy’s consumption,
reduce costs, prevent pollution, working condition
and promote production efficiency.
The range of using titanium
in chemical industry has been widened continually
and the quantity has been increased for recent
years in our country. It has been one of the
most primary erode-resistant materials and
has established its important position in
chemical industry. Moreover, it has been attached
importance to by many engineers and technician.
医Medical
Industry
The history of using titanium
is only near upon 20 years in our country’s
pharmacy, medical appliances and body-embedded
area, however, it is a great success and bring
out notable social and economic benefits.
Northeast pharmacy factory, Shandong Xinhua
pharmacy factory and Wuhan pharmacy factory
have taken the head in making use of titanium
equipments to solve the serious difficulties
of eroding equipments and improve medicine’s
quality since 1970s.
In recent years, many of
domestic pharmacy enterprises have chosen
titanium and materials containing titanium,
that has established the special position
for titanium in pharmacy industry.
Appliances for medical
treatment and operation have been developed
rapidly in recent years, too. Those which
contain titanium as their manufacturing materials
are very popular with surgical, ophthalmic
doctors, etc. Titanium has another notable
feature that it has excellent compatibility
with human beings. For this reason, it has
been chosen to be the most perfect body-embedded
materials. For recent over ten years, many
research institutions, medical colleges, hospitals
have done a great deal of works and clinic
researches and have proved that titanium is
the most perfect body-embedded materials at
present.
Other
Fields
Titanium can be used in
producing various kinds of goods with titanium
which are very popular with consumers because
of its features of light weight, high intensity
and easy-oxidation. Spectacles frames which
are sold in present markets include ones which
are made from pure titanium, TiNi alloys and
titanium materials with other materials. Their
advantages are corrode-resistant, color-stable
and their weights are very light, therefore,
they are popular with consumers. Watches which
are made from titanium have already been sold
in overseas markets. They are made in over
ten factories all over the world at present.
There are also tailor-made watches for athletes
and divers. Furthermore, commodities which
are made from titanium include cameras, suitcases,
vacuum flasks, seals, earbob, bangles, rings,
necklaces and pins, etc.
Titanium and its alloys have been widely used
in producing various kinds of appliances and
instruments for sports. They include bats
for golf and tennis, ski poles, snow-shovels,
sledge, shields for swordplay, fishing gear,
track shoes’ crampons for track and field
sports.
Cultural productions which are made from titanium
include ball-pens, automatical pencil, card
boxes, lighter, knives, tweezers and data-stored
apparatuses which are made from titanium and
stainless steel.
Many countries try producing bicycles and
racing bicycles with titanium but failed in
the early 1970s. With the development of technology,
a Japanese company is the first to solve the
difficult problem. The weight of a bicycle
which is made from titanium is only 40% -
50% of an ordinary bicycle’s while its rim,
front fork, flywheel, axle and so on are made
from titanium.
Titanium can be used in industrial arts because
of its features of light weight, high intensity,
especially its easy-oxidation and easy-coloration.
The productions which are made from titanium
include sculptures, carvings, cups, tablets,
ceramic with a layer of titanium film, etc.
The color of titanium dioxide is similar to
gold, which brings out excellent decorating
effects, while the cost of titanium dioxide
is much cheaper than gold, which makes productions
fine qualities and low prices. Titanium’s
oxidation film has high intensity and stable
chemical performance, so it can resist corroding,
wear and tear and wash, so its color can keep
invariably fresh.
